Friday, April 26th

Good afternoon everyone,

This week was short but sweet. Students had lots of fun today during our Easter egg hunt! In math we started our new and final unit on 2D shapes. In science we finished our unit, What's the Matter?, and next week we will start our final unit, Forces and Energy.

In social studies we have continued learning about Heroes of History. So far we've learned about Harriet Tubman, Abraham Lincoln, Susan B. Anthony and Nikola Tesla. On Monday we will learn all about Mahatma Gandhi.

Finally, in our language classes we have been reading and responding to our Junie B. Jones story books. It's a pleasure to see students engage with their chapter books.

Notices and Reminders:

  • We have an exciting day on Monday. In the morning we will bless our new elevator before host ing Dominican International School Taipei basketball team for an exhibition game. Refreshments will be provided. Following this from 12pm there will be an open house tour of our school classrooms, facilities and the new DISK museum

Thursday, April 11th

Good afternoon parents,

This week students were busy in math class making 3D shapes and counting the number of faces, sides, and vertices. In science we started our new unit, 'What's the matter?' Students will learn and investigate the different properties of matter.

In ELA, we started our new chapter book, Junie B. Jones. Thank you all again for your financial support! And in social studies, this week's hero of history is Abraham Lincoln. We learned how he worked to free the slaves in America.

Notices

  • We received the ITBS results back today. If I have already met with you this week, I put the results in your child's assignment book. Otherwise, I will give them to you in person during our PTC meetings. If you have any questions about the results please get in touch.
That's all from me. Enjoy the rest of the week and have a fantastic weekend!

Wednesday, April 3rd

Hello everyone,

This week is super short, so we had to cram in as much learning as we could!

Students worked on their word sorts, spelling and reading during ELA classes. In math we began our unit on 3D shapes. After identifying the shapes and their sides and vertices, students made them using sticks and sticky tac.

In science we finished up unit 8 on objects in the sky. Students will have a science test on Tuesday. They will take their books home with them. Please see Google Classroom for details.

Finally, in social studies we kicked off our final unit of the year, Heroes of History. Each week students will learn about a different important person of history. This week, we learned about Harriet Tubman.

Reminders:

  • I sent home a letter requesting money for a book we will study this quarter. Please send it the money by Monday, if you haven't already. And, once again, thank you for your support!
  • Next week (4/8-4/12) is Parent-Teacher week. I look forward to meeting with you all.
  • DISK will be closed for the Easter Break from 4/17-4/23.

Have a fantastic weekend!

P.S. The video editing is finished. Thank you very much to Ms. Valde, the ICT teacher for her help. Here are grade 1 students' country presentations - enjoy!
